METER CRADLE WITH WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS PORT
Inventor: Charles T. Springer
Assigned to: O'Connor Springer LP
In short, a main feature of the patent provides for multimeters to communicate with your computer by means of an optical port. The port transmits to a receiver in a cradle which may be networked to other cradles and devices. Why? Because the multimeter is a general purpose instrument that can be used to collect data from just about any sensor or detector, but only if you can write fast enough! Why not let your computer do it? At the same time, since there is no electrical cable connected to the meter you can lift it out and use it in the normal fashion at any time. Our work to date has used multidrop RS-485 networking. Universal serial bus (USB) has come along just in time to make this job much easier and the cradle hardware simpler and cheaper.
